Merc 150 Submerged Outboard Motor In Saltwater Sunk Boat?
I let some friends borrow my boat and they basically sunk it 20 miles offshore. When it got back on dry land (motor submerged) I immediately pulled the plugs blew out the water, rinsed with fresh water, coated with wd-40 and it started up shortly there after. I took it out 3 times after with absolutely no problems. The sinking is still a mystery and a story for another day (I'm thinking they forgot to put the plugs in the boat and when they got fish and stopped the boat, down she went, but I digress) It is a 20' center console and it had water thigh high at the helm. This in turn means both batteries were under and who knows what else. I unfortunately have not been able to see the boat since October (8 months) and am wondering if much more damage could have happened since? It has been sitting on the trailer the whole time. What can I expect when I go back to the boat? I'm sure batteries are toast and but am wondering if everything else may still be in working order? Thanks.

you may as well replace every bit of electrical wire and components. I have restored vessels that have sunk and even if you rinse it down right away the salt water has gotten into it and it is toast. At least you got the engine running right away so you are ahead in that area. I hope you coated it in silicone spray before you put it away. Good luck!

How much could i get for this boat?
Seeing how much the average price range would be for my boat. Please real answers only. It's a 2002 18ft Sailfish with a 115 Yamaha on the back. Outboard with a center console and fiberglass hull and a 17 gallon tank. Livewell, radio, cleaning station with sink, two cooler seats, navigation/fishfinder are some of the perks. Thanks!

we dropped sailfish about a year ago.they are well built boats,with good hardware. it was an upper management decision. when i get to work i'll see if i can get a price for you but i need more info.exact model designation? aluminum trailer? 2 or 4 stroke? hydraulic steering?keep in mind that it's been a buyer's not a seller's market for some time now.

Would a 32" TV tube sink if thrown into the ocean?
I have this 32" console TV I need to get rid of. I took the picture tube out of the cabinet and need to dispose of it. They won't take it in my trash, and it costs too much to recycle it, so I was thinking of throwing it over the side of my boat. It is pretty heavy, but it is empty inside and may still float, I want it to sink so no one hits it. I know some of you won't agree to do that but it is just glass and won't harm anything if it sits on the bottom of the ocean.

It is not just glass. That's why it is not allowed in the landfill. Please don't pollute the sensitive marine environment to save yourself a few dollars. You can afford to own a boat, but you can't afford to pay for your TV to be recycled? Come on man, Step up to the plate and be responsible. Look in your phone book for e-recycling centers. They will usually take old TVs for free. Call your garbage company and ask them for other options.

Can i use a briggs&straton lawnmower motor on a homemade boat as an inboard/outboard motor?
the boat is a boat i found online it is a plywood rowboat that can handle a 3 to 5 horsepower outboard but they are too expensive when i could go to the hardware stora and buy a motor for 100 or 200 $ and do a little work to make an even better boat. i would also like to add a console (with steering and maybe just maybe a throttle) if its possible. the url for the plans is: http://www.vintageprojects.com/boats/plywood-row.html ....... so can anyone tell me what i might have to do or have any ideas? im very new to this concept and just thought it might be a fun thing to try out.... also if its inboard how would that work, would i have to drill holes into the bottom, that would make me nervous i wouldnt want to sink or even worse jeapordize the work and money id been putting in the project

um don't think a lawnmower engine is a good idea....yes u could probably make it work but not reliably without some serious fabrication.....and u said u were new to this so probably not something u should tackle.... my advice would b to find a used working motor.....u can pick up a smaller say 5-9 hp boat motor for about 150 most of the time....but b aware that most of these motors will b quite old and parts might b hard to find....
